An interesting question that tickled our brain was : What are Stock investors searching for in the modern day complex investment arena of stock markets? Is it ‘best stocks’? Or ‘technical analysis’? or ‘fundamental analysis’ and related terms like ‘value investing’? We did some research using search trend tools like Google Analytics. We looked at what have been the search interests for investors over the period 2004 to 2011. Here are the findings.

People all over the world seem to be more interested in knowing what the “best stock” is. The search interest in “best stock” has nearly doubled since 2004 which indicates that people are becoming  increasingly interested in stock investing. Of those who analyze stocks themselves, more people search for “Technical Analysis” than “Fundamental Analysis” or “Value Investing”, however search interest in “Technical Analysis” has less than halved since 2004 world over. It would be safe to conclude that people  are realizing the importance of long term investing, as is also supported by less than halved search interest in “day trading” since 2004.

Looking at India too, the search interest in  “technical Analysis” has halved since 2004, whereas search interest in “Fundamental Analysis” and “value investing” is keeping pace with with increasing use of internet. The search interest in “best stock” has doubled  in India too since 2004, which is a positive factor for Indian investors. Also, within India Gujarat, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh and Delhi contribute to the maximum searches for the above phrases.

These facts conform to our investment philosophy at Moneyworks4me.com. We strictly believe that we as investors, should take our own decision when investing in stocks. Going completely by tips and recommendations given by friends, relatives and brokers is not the way to go. One must do proper analysis of a company’s business before investing in any company. Once done with the analysis, the best stock to invest is the one which is fundamentally strong and is available at a discount to its intrinsic worth or fair value. At MoneyWorks4me.com we provide effective tools to enable retail investors make sensible stock investing decisions. You can learn more about Value Investing and time-tested principles of stock investing on our blog Stock Shastra.
